Foundations of Japanese Culture
(3-Month Course)

Duration: 60—90 min | Capacity: up to 10 | Fee:

$340 total (Full 3-month course — 6 sessions)
$114/month × 3 (Monthly payment option)

This three-month course (six sessions) provides a structured foundation in Japanese culture through the lens of everyday life, traditional arts, and tea.

Rather than focusing on learning the full procedures of Senchado, the Art of Japanese Sencha, this course emphasizes the cultural concepts that support Ogasawara-ryu Senchado and other Japanese traditions.

Before studying specific arts such as Senchado, it is helpful to understand the values, etiquette, and aesthetic sensibilities that shape Japanese culture.

In this course, you will build that grounding step by step.

Payment will be arranged after we review your reservation and confirm your placement.
No charges will occur at the time of booking.

What You Will Learn

Across six sessions, you will explore:

• Basic Japanese etiquette (greetings, posture, bowing, guest manners)

• How to appreciate the tearoom (chashitsu) and its symbolism

• Seasonal expressions, flowers, incense, and scrolls

• Cultural and historical background behind Japanese tea culture

• Aesthetic values that support the spirit of Senchado

• How seasonal changes influence artistic and cultural appreciation

Lesson Flow

Each session includes a short cultural lecture, observation, discussion, and hands-on exploration.

Students will gain a comprehensive foundation in Japanese culture, exploring its historical context, living traditions, and how these practices continue to shape everyday life and artistic sensibilities in Japan.

Elements of Japanese tea culture may be referenced as part of understanding seasonal awareness, etiquette, and aesthetics—not as Senchado training.
